North Brisbane Mural Project
Redcliffe Peninsula Train Line

In 2015, David Houghton was successful in tendering for the largest Brisbane mural project in the history of the city. The project involved the design, preparation, installation and clear coat of nine artworks on new structures such as sound walls and bridge abutments that would span the railway line from Petrie to Kippa Ring in Brisbane’s North. Working with Transport and Main Roads on this projects trail of murals can be viewed on various stages of the 7000m2/13km shared path that extends from Lawnton to Kippa Ring for residents and public that utilise the path, David who was principal contractor, lead artist and project manager for the project worked with community groups from the area from such as the local first nations elders, Petrie historical society, RSL, The Space youth group in North Lake’s, local first nations elders and the local environment group to create artworks that reflect each groups values in the community these values were used to inform the design which were well received at each site. Various methods of safety and project management were used such as Site accessments, SWMS, Environment and quality management plans, such measures helped overcome obstacles in the construction environment. Each mural has its own range of artistic applications to suit the theme needed, which creates a unique trail of Artworks. David and the team used the highest quality materials to create the artworks as always, big thanks to Resene for providing a great colour range for the murals, Molotow Australia.

From designs to installation, the artworks will be completed professionally and maintain their vibrancy for future generations to enjoy. From working with Lydon Davis on a great indigenous design, working with the local youth group, to creating photo-realistic flora and fauna designs this project was enjoyed by all the team.
